Case Studies:

In-Store Advertising

In a move that may well revolutionize the retail industry's approach to using images for marketing and promotion, Wal-Marts across the US recently installed the radically new digital video server to deliver in-store advertising. The multi-channel server plays different video clips to various TV's throughout the store grouped by department. In addition some of the digital video server channels are used as bar code scanning stations. At these various locations in throughout the store, shoppers can pick Computer Software, Music CD's and Movies titles and pass them by a barcode scanner that is connected to the Server. Automatically a specific video clip will playback providing information on that particular item.

No local intervention is needed since the content and play-lists are controlled remotely from the head office leaving the store's manager and staff to concentrate on selling. More video clips for new products can be added at any time and distributed via the network.

From the corporate standpoint, there is significant value in the digital video server's use as a private broadcasting system enabling management to schedule in-store training and other corporate communications. The server can be used with standard, low cost TV type displays, LCD's, Plasma or Projectors, allowing retailers flexibility in displays and budgeting.

Retail Environments

With studies showing that over 70% of all retail purchasing decisions are made in the store, effective in-store promotions are a central component of successful retailing. Unlike any other visual merchandising channel, OOH Video Digital Video Server allows retailers to quickly adjust in-store strategies based upon inventory, weather, events or trends. For example, a chain of hardware stores, of any size, could respond to an unexpected snowfall in one region by changing the in-store message from garden hoses and rakes to snow shovels and salt within an hour, with no in-store intervention. Contrast this to a minimum 6-8 week lead-time for a large retailer to design and implement a traditional printed sign merchandising strategy. From promoting new seasonal products that hold higher margins, to introducing a new product line, to moving excess inventory at sale prices, the cost effective OOH Video Digital Video Server technology can dramatically impact per store revenue and margin.
